SADD is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on October 31st, 2019.  Each pint of blood can be divided into three components—red cells, platelets and plasma—giving our blood drive the possibility of impacting 102 lives. While it is impossible at the time of donation to know how that specific donation will be used, there are more uses for blood than many people realize. Whole blood often is needed for surgery patients and trauma victims. For example, a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. The blood used in an emergency is already on the shelves before the event occurs. Cancer patients may also need significant amounts of blood. More than one million people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment. To learn more about how donating blood can help a patient in need go to redcrossblood.org.

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)

Originally, SADD's mission was to help young people say "No" to drinking and driving, and to cocaine consumption. In 1997, SADD expanded its mission from preventing intoxicated driving to preventing the consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs and other problems. The organization adopted the new name "Students Against Destructive Decisions." SADD now highlights prevention of all destructive behaviors and attitudes that are harmful to young people, including underage drinking, substance abuse, impaired driving, violence, and suicide. At Fatima High School we strive to uphold these morals by having Blood Drives, seatbelt checks, Red Ribbon activities and extracurricular events that allow fun without substance use.
